Sony Playstation Portable – a Quick Psp Review

Sony Playstation Portable – a Quick Psp Review

Some time ago, Sony, the company responsible for making the PlayStation, analyzed the portable market and perhaps thought it might  be good to design their own portable console.

During this time, Nintendo already had a strong brand, of course, this established brand being Nintendo’s well-recognized and loved GameBoy portable system. Also during this point in time, Nintendo let the gaming world know of a new system they planned on releasing, the DS. So basically, Sony convinced themselves, and even hinted at in some ways, that the Sony PlayStation Portable would pretty much make the GameBoy and DS systems of the past.

Getting right to the point, that just wasn’t the way things panned out. Now let me talk about the Sony PSP for a bit. First things first, the actual hardware, pleasing to the eyes to say the least. It’s got a beautiful, high-resoulution screen. Software title or videogames are played on what is known as the UMD format. Essentially mini-dvd’s. You also use UMD’s to watch movies on the Sony PSP (Sony PlayStation Portable for short).

Other things you can do is surf the net, listen to your favorite music, and more. Just talking about hardware alone, it’s delicious, if you know what I mean. It’s great to look at, it’s got the best looking graphics so far on the market, etc. Somehow though, Sony’s expectations weren’t met, and Nintendo was still clearly in the game.

The “King of Iron Fist Tournament” brings 40 contenders into the fray this time around, with mainstays such as Jin, King, Anna, Law, Phoenix, and Heihachi, as well as six newcomers, including the jet-pack enabled Alisa Bosconovitch, the veteran warrior Lars Alexandersson, and the obese but impossibly quick American karate champion known as Bob. The series’ fan-familiar match types and battle modes are included, although some have been revamped. In the storyline-driven “Scenario Campaign” mode, similar to the “Tekken Force” mode featured in earlier editions of the game, a chosen character battles through set piece areas, fighting numerous enemies to progress.

Online functionality is fundamental in Tekken 6. Players can join matches against others over an Internet connection, or fight alongside a human-controlled ally in a co-op mode. Character appearances can be customized, with selections of clothing, hairstyles, fashion accessories, and tattoos, for a memorable look in online battles.

The Sony PSP features a large 4.3-inch 16:9 wide screen LCD TFT screen with a 480×272 resolution, button layout similar to the PlayStation with a digital control pad, an analog stick, circle, triangle, square, x, and two shoulder buttons, USB 2.0 connectivity, a Memory Stick Duo media slot, and 802.11b WiFi support. The Standard Edition PSP comes with the PSP itself, a battery, an AC adapter, and a manual, along with Ridge Racers and Minna No Golf Portable.

Rumor, or maybe expectations of a redesigned PlayStation portable began as soon as Nintendo showed the world how much better a handheld can get after an upgrade. Sony always took the position that there were no plans for a second release of its portable, although they never denied the possibility of revised hardware for the PSP. That is, until a Sony executive in the UK, Ray Maguire, was caught on record in early March saying that the then current PSP was just the “first iteration” of the handheld, and that a future version of the system would be smaller and lighter than the current PSP.

Online games offer an equal opportunity for women of all ages to get in on the fun – and advertisers are taking notice. In fact, a study by game industry research firm DFC Intelligence reveals that advertisers spent close to 0-million to buy space on casual game sites or in the games themselves in 2006, up from -million in 2002.

What’s behind this shift? Advertisers recognize that the audience for casual online games is expanding to encompass all genders and all ages. Research shows that these players spend more time online and consume less traditional media. Companies that ignore this space miss out on a critical opportunity to reach their target audiences while they’re at their most engaged.

Online Games Attract Women of All Ages

Casual online game sites continue to attract an ever-growing audience of female players who can’t get enough mind-bending puzzle and strategy games. While the total female online gaming audience in August 2008 grew 27 percent versus last year to nearly 43 million visitors, the number of female gamers in the 12-24 and 55-64 age segments grew at a substantially faster rate, reports comScore in its 2008 study of online gaming audiences.
